About The Poodle
The history of the Poodle breed is full of mystery, however, most historians agree that the breed was developed in Europe, likely Germany, as a hunting/retriever breed.
The elegant and overstyled hair that you see in the show rings in the US and Canada is the result of years of development of a working clip for the breed that would protect it from cold water as the Poodle retrieved game for its owner.
There are three varieties of Poodle in North America:Toy, Miniature and Standard. Each one has its own size and height restrictions, but in essence are all the same breed, and should look like a Poodle.

A very complete and detailed history of the breed is available through the The Poodle History Project.
The Poodle has a long and celebrated history. A very intelligent and active breed it is not suited to everyone.
All varieties require daily exercise and regular grooming - they are very proud of their appearance! They are quick to train, but left to their own devices will train themselves so it is important to teach them good manners and some obedience before they come up with their own ideas.

If you enjoy doing things with your Poodle there are many activities you can participate in, including:
* Competitive Obedience
* Rally-Obedience
* Agility
* Flyball
* Field Training
* Tracking
* Herding
Whatever you choose to do with your Poodle, whether it's being an agility champion, or a great pet, we are sure you will have years of fun with your new companion.
